In the Luosha Empire, maps and flight are forbidden, and memories of history are periodically erased. When a magician arrives in an airship, he violates the regime’s greatest taboos and unleashes chaos just as the emperor prepares to erase his subjects’ memories once again. Arrested, the magician meets an orphan named Xiao Zhi and leaves him a star map that leads him on a journey through time and space. Traversing other dimensions and reuniting with figures from past lives, Xiao Zhi discovers a profound connection with the magician and begins to understand his own place in an eternal cycle between chaos and order. Presented at the Locarno Film Festival.
