Born in Fuxin, China, in 1980, he lives and works in Beijing. A filmmaker and visual artist, he graduated in printmaking from the China Academy of Fine Arts and, in 2005, founded Pi Animation Studio. His work has been exhibited at TANK Shanghai, Centre Pompidou, Vancouver Art Gallery, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, among others. He directed the short films “21 Ke / 21 Grams” (2010), presented at the Venice Film Festival; “Some Actions Which Haven’t Been Defined Yet in the Revolution” (2012), selected for Berlinale Shorts; and “Tears of Chiwen” (2017) and “Shocking Dreams in the Circus” (2024), both presented in the Short Films Competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. “Magic Atlas” is his first feature film.
