Alex takes his wife, Vera, and their two children to a house in an isolated rural area. The peaceful setting initially suggests a refuge from urban life, but a silent and persistent tension lingers between the couple. Shortly after they arrive, Vera makes a shocking revelation: she is pregnant, and the child is not Alex’s. The confession triggers a series of emotional and moral conflicts. Unable to cope with the situation, Alex reacts with detachment rather than open confrontation. As the silence and unease deepen, Vera finds herself increasingly lonely and desperate. Winner of the Best Actor award, to Konstantin Lavronenko, at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.
