50ª mostra > filmes > Snow White

Based on a play by Swiss writer Robert Walser, João César Monteiro’s film constructs a continuation of the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale. The narrative begins exactly where the original story ends: shortly after Snow White is awakened from her apparent death by the Prince. From this point, the character confronts the Prince, the Queen, and the Hunter, engaging in dialogues about the events that led to her poisoning and debating issues of free will, love, and hate. A film of visual austerity, the screen remains dark for almost the entire duration, interspersed with brief shots and driven by the voices of the actors.

Paulo Branco receives the Leon Cakoff Prize at this 50th Mostra.
