Gugu is a nearly 12-year-old dreamer and soccer enthusiast who lives with his grandmother Dilma, a retired teacher who raises him with freedom and affection, unconcerned by the townspeople’s judgments. The boy’s relationship with his father Batista is difficult, marked by absences, expectations, and unspoken affections. Grandmother and grandson live alone beside the Araújo Lima reservoir, which, after years of drought, is beginning to reveal the ruins of an old submerged town, bringing to the surface memories that changed the family’s life. The film won the Crystal Bear and The Grand Prix of the International Jury in the Generation Kplus section at the Berlin International Film Festival.
