Artavazd Pelechian

Artavazd Pelechian was born in 1938 in Leninakan (now Gyumri), Armenia. A filmmaker and film theorist, he built a body of work over six decades comprising ten films, characterized by the use of images and music, rhythm, repetition, and associations that extend throughout each work. In his book "My Cinema" (1988), he introduced his theory of "distance montage", a method that establishes relationships between images without relying on their immediate sequence. His films include "Mountain Patrol" (1964), "Land of the People" (1966), "The Beginning" (1967), "We" (1969), "The Seasons" (1975), "Our Century" (1982), "The End" (1992), and "Life" (1993). In 1994, the 18th Mostra screened some of his works. For its 50th edition, the Mostra presents eight of his films in newly restored prints.
