50ª mostra > filmes > Raw Streets - Brazilian Women in Urban Art
Urban art is over 50 years old. Since then, this form of expression has been largely dominated by male artists. But in this century, women have taken over the streets. What do they want to tell us through their diverse artistic expressions that subvert the city’s symbols? The film brings together Brazilian female urban artists as they traverse streets, alleys, narrow lanes, building facades, and avenues. From scaffolding set up on walls many meters high, we hear the unique hiss of spray paint and the beats of female rap. As we follow the journeys and shared experiences of leading women in Brazilian urban art — Panmela Castro, Simone Siss, Soberana Ziza, Mag Magrela, Eneri, and Moara Negreiros — their struggles, emotions, anxieties, joys, languages, and themes come to light.
