Every year, the most important popular festival in Brazil takes place on the island of Parintins, in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. While the festival is being prepared, faith and religious syncretism already reveal themselves as determining elements in the celebration of an idea of Brazilianness, founded on the mythical figure of the Boi-Bumbá, the result of the profound and complex coexistence between peoples of different origins, such as indigenous, African, and European.
