49ª mostra > filmes > The Shipwrecked Triptych
An anthology film that employs the universal metaphor of shipwreck to examine human fragility and the precarious boundary between existence and nonexistence across three distinct episodes. In the first episode, set in a rural German nursing home on New Year’s Eve 1982, the staff indulge in a clandestine celebration. In the second tale, set in the mid-1990s, a refugee family is unsettled by the sudden arrival of a municipal official whose intrusive presence threatens their fragile sense of safety and belonging. In the final chapter, we are transported several centuries back, where a band of outcasts roams a medieval countryside and one member must confront not only the hostile environment but also the shifting borders of his own consciousness. Each part of this triptych is defined by its own style and genre, while shared visual motifs and thematic currents connect these disparate worlds, challenging viewers to confront the delicate ties that bind us to life.
