Hanabi trains every day to become a giant, believing this will allow her to live in the Village of the Future, set atop an immense mountain where everything is green and the water is fresh. Her people are divided by height: the taller they are, the closer they live to the Village of the Future. Obsessed with becoming a giant, Hanabi ventures into a level of the mountain forbidden to her for being considered too small. Consequently, she is banished from her village and forced into exile. On this journey, she encounters a mysterious giant named Bonjongo. She insists that he train her, and a friendship blossoms. Through him, Hanabi learns a different way of being a giant and begins to question the traditions of her own origins.
