In an isolated region in the Brazilian countryside, the small community of Miguel Burnier faces a problem that few seem to care about: the risk of disappearing. After going through a series of different economic cycles since it was founded, the town suffers in 2005 a knockout blow: one of the biggest mining companies in Brazil buys the majority of the district and installs a mining plant at its center. The film accompanies four years in the lives of the last remaining residents of Miguel Burnier, mostly poor and unemployed men and women, considered unfit for employment by the factory that now presides over their territory. Entrenched in boredom and faced with a lack of opportunities, often embracing alcohol as a companion through their nights and days, these characters gradually reveal their contradictions, sense of humor and wisdom. Complicity and friendships are forged and reconfigured from one day to the next, in a lonely and desperate attempt to breathe life back into the community that disintegrates around them.
