Brazil, 1940. Maria, a young bandit, discovers she is pregnant and, after the extermination of her gang, flees to the Midwest to give birth and start life anew. She joins Getúlio Vargas’s “March to the West” government program, which promised 30 hectares of land to small farmers. In the first half, Maria confronts untamed nature – planting is an art. In the second, the past comes to claim her, and she will have to prove all her most indomitable bravery.
