"A Swan’s Dream" is a single-user VR experience adapted from "Swan Lake", restaged as an intimate encounter between the viewer and a solitary swan. Odette moves through fragments of the ballet inside a dreamlike landscape that shifts around her: forests that dissolve into water, water that dissolves into feathers. There is no narrator, no player agency in the conventional sense, and no way to fail. The viewer stands close to her, at times uncomfortably close, and watches. Built end-to-end in Unity with C#, integrating original motion capture, spatial audio and hand-built 3D environments, the piece asks what a nineteenth-century tragic ballet becomes when the audience is inside the same space as its heroine, and cannot look away.
