

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Wayne Wang moved to California in 1967. After graduating from the California College of Arts and Crafts, he returned to Hong Kong to work on a popular family drama series at RTHK. He later returned to the U.S., settling in San Francisco. He directed films such as “Chan Is Missing” (1982), “Dim Sum: A Little Bit of Heart” (1985), “The Joy Luck Club” (1993), presented at festivals like Locarno and Toronto; “Smoke” (1995), winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlinale; and co-directed “Blue in the Face” (1995, 19th Mostra) with Paul Auster and Harvey Wang, presented at Rotterdam and Toronto. His filmography also includes “The Princess of Nebraska” (2007, 32nd Mostra), “A Thousand Years of Good Prayers” (2007, 32nd Mostra), winner of the CEC Award for Best Film at the San Sebastián Film Festival, “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” (2011), “Soul of a Banquet” (2014), and “Coming Home Again” (2020).
