

A director and screenwriter born in Strasbourg, France. She studied film and audiovisual at the University of Paris 7 – Jussieu. Her first short film, “Napoli 90’” (1994), co-directed with Benoît Finck, was screened at Cinéma du Réel. In 2002, alongside co-director Michel Klein, she won the Jean Vigo Prize for the medium-length film “L’Arpenteur” (2001), presented at the 27th Mostra. Her first feature film, “A Real Life” (2009, 33rd Mostra), was exhibited at the Locarno Film Festival and received a special mention for the Critics’ Prize at IndieLisboa. She then directed the features “Le Grand Homme” (2014) and “Ceux de la Nuit” (2022). Through her documentaries and fictions, Sarah Leonor explores the landscapes and imaginary worlds of distant countries — Italy, Armenia, Russia, Chechnya, and the United States —, creating a dialogue with personal concerns.
