Eduardo Escorel

Born in São Paulo in 1945, Eduardo Escorel is a historic name in Brazilian cinema: a director, screenwriter, editor, professor, and film critic. As an editor, his credits include “Entranced Earth” (1967), by Glauber Rocha, “Macunaíma” (1969), by Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, and “Twenty Years Later” (1984), by Eduardo Coutinho, as well as films by João Moreira Salles. He directed, among others, “O Tempo e o Lugar” (2008), “Paulo Moura – Alma Brasileira” (2013), “Sars-Cov-2 – O Tempo da Pandemia” (2021, 45th Mostra), co-directed with his brother Lauro Escorel, “1968 – Um Ano na Vida” (2023), and “Antonio Candido, Anotações Finais” (2024). Since 2006, he has taught in the postgraduate program in documentary film at Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV), and since 2009 he has written the column Questões Cinematográficas on the website of Piauí magazine.
