Jerzy Michałowski is a famous political correspondent who, upon his return from abroad, discovers that his wife has left him. Not knowing the reasons behind her departure, Jerzy is unable to accept his wife’s decision. At the same time, his professional life begins to crumble: his television appearances and press publications receive a cold reception, his university lectures are suspended, and a long-planned international trip is suddenly canceled. Andrzej Wajda portrays a generation marked by conformism, compromises, and the struggle to preserve its autonomy. Winner of the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
Restored in 2012 by ZEBRA Film Studio in collaboration with Yakumama Film/Soundplace, from the original camera negative. Funding provided by Filmoteka Narodowa (National Film Archive of Poland) and Ministerstwo Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego (Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland).
The screenings of Andrzej Wajda’s films are organised by Agencja Promocji Mañana in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Brasília and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Curitiba, with funding from the Polish Film Institute.
