Chrysostom, a 40-year-old fisherman who grew up isolated from society, longs to find a son. Believing that “when you dream this big reality learns” he sets out on a search for true relationships, invents an atypical family and unites characters as eccentric as human. Weaving non-linear stories in an ingenuous multiplot, the fisherman meets the smart Camilo, a 12-year-old boy, orphan by Francisca, a dwarf woman. Camilo encourages him to find a partner. Chrysostom meets Isaura, a dishonored woman plunged into solitude, married to Antonino, a sensitive delicate man. With simplicity and sensitivity, Chrysostom deconstructs our vision of masculinity by uniting these characters who have suffered and been mistreated by the fictional small seaside village, in an ode to those who resist and truly manage to connect for not being stuck to the social conventions and society’s limiting belief.
Based on the novel by Valter Hugo Mãe.
