Paris, 1895. Portuguese playwright Lúcio Vaz meets Ricardo de Loureiro at a party. Ricardo is a wealthy, magnetic poet, and there is something about him that is impossible to decipher. The two become inseparable. Until Ricardo disappears. He returns to Lisbon without warning, leaving only a vague message about an unexpected happiness. When Lúcio also returns, he finds the explanation: Marta, a beautiful and enigmatic woman whom Ricardo introduces as his companion, and whom Lúcio begins to desire with a disorienting intensity. The posthumous work of filmmaker António da Cunha Telles (1935-2022), “Cherchez la Femme” is an adaptation of Mário de Sá-Carneiro’s novel “Lúcio’s Confession”.
