After training at La Fémis, Yanis Koussim directed several short films, including “Khouya” (2010), which received awards at the Locarno and Amiens film festivals and was presented at Clermont-Ferrand. He also contributed to the documentary “A Summer in Algiers: the Night” (2009) and co-wrote the screenplay for “I Still Hide to Smoke” (2016), directed by R. Obermayer. He is the founder of Plateau19, a collective of filmmakers advocating for independent cinema in Algeria. “Roqia” is his first feature film.
