

Valeska Grisebach studied philosophy and German language and literature in Berlin, Munich, and Vienna. In 1993, she began studying film directing at the Vienna Film Academy. Her graduation film, “Be My Star” (2001), won the Critics’ Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, as well as the Grand Prize at the Torino Film Festival. She then directed the feature films “Longing” (2006), which premiered in the Berlinale Competition and received numerous awards at international festivals, including in Buenos Aires, Gijón, and Warsaw; and “Western” (2017), which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival.
