An Indian filmmaker who, despite working primarily in Telugu cinema – also known as Tollywood –, is a pioneer of the Pan-India phenomenon, bridging audiences across languages and cultures both within his country and abroad. In 2016, he received the Padma Shri Award, one of India’s highest civilian honors. Since his directorial debut with “Student No. 1” (2001), he has directed more than 10 films, such as “Vikramarkudu” (2006), “Magadheera” (2009) and “Eega” (2012). He also directed “Baahubali: The Beginning” (2015) and its sequel “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” (2017), which became the highest-grossing Indian films of their time, with 170 million admissions; and the internationally awarded “RRR” (2022), winner of the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song for “Naatu Naatu” and also the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
