
Born in Portugal in 1952. She majored in painting and sculpture at the Lisbon Advanced School of Fine Arts. Before directing, she has been active in different areas such as costume design for “Francisca” (1981, 15th Mostra), by Manoel de Oliveira, and assistant director to Werner Schroeter in “The Rose King” (1986). She directed the feature films “The Sound of the Earth Shaking” (1990), “Fragile as the World” (2001), “The 15th Stone: Manoel de Oliveira and João Bénard da Costa in Conversation” (2004, 31st Mostra), “The Invisible Collection” (2009), “A Woman’s Revenge” (2011), “Correspondences” (2016, 40th Mostra), “The Portuguese Woman” (2018), “Danses Macabres, Skeletons, and Other Fantasies” (2019), co- directed with Pierre Léon and Jean-Louis Schefer, and “The Kegelstatt Trio” (2022). Her movies were presented in film festivals like Berlin, Locarno, Mar del Plata, Torino, BAFICI and IndieLisboa.
