

A Palestinian filmmaker, Rakan Mayasi was born in Germany and currently lives in Brussels, Belgium. He studied cinema and psychology in Lebanon and later received film training with Abbas Kiarostami at the Asian Film Academy in South Korea. He holds an MA in filmmaking from the LUCA School of Arts in Belgium. He directed short films such as “Roubama” (2012), screened at the Locarno Film Festival; “Bonboné” (2017), which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival; “Trumpets in the Sky” (2021), also awarded at Toronto; and “The Key” (2023), presented at SXSW. “Yesterday the Eye Didn’t Sleep” is his feature debut.
