Rafael Manuel is a Filipino filmmaker based between London, Amsterdam, and Manila. His short film “Filipiñana” (2020) won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. His works have screened at film festivals such as Locarno, Rotterdam, and FIDMarseille, and are exhibited by ARTE and the Criterion Collection. In 2022, he was selected by Jia Zhangke to receive his mentorship as part of the Rolex Arts Initiative. “Filipiñana”, based on the 2020 short, is his feature directorial debut.
