

Born in Eindhoven, in the Netherlands, in 1963. He graduated in industrial design from the Delft University of Technology and worked as an actor before turning to directing in the early 1990s. He gained recognition with the documentary series “Long Live...” (1996-2003) and directed documentaries such as “A Funfair behind the Dikes” (2006) and “I Am a Woman Now” (2011), presented at IDFA, about the first generation of trans women to undergo gender reassignment surgery. He made his fiction debut with the series “Ramses” (2014), winner of the Prix Europa. He went on to direct the features “Open Seas” (2018), “Stromboli” (2022) and “A Beautiful Imperfection” (2024), his first English-language film, as well as the series “The Hunt” (2024). He is also a theater director.
