Maurice Pialat

Maurice Pialat was born in 1925 in Cunlhat, France. One of the most important figures in French cinema after the Nouvelle Vague, he originally trained as a painter before turning to cinema in the 1950s, making short films and documentaries before directing his first feature, “Naked Childhood” (1968), which won the Prix Jean Vigo. He went on to direct films including “We Won’t Grow Old Together” (1972), “Loulou” (1980), “À Nos Amours” (1983, 8th Mostra), “Police” (1985), “Under the Sun of Satan” (1987), which won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, and “Van Gogh” (1991). Pialat died in 2003 in Paris, France.
