

Egyptian filmmaker Marwan Hamed is an important name in contemporary Arab cinema. His debut feature, “The Yacoubian Building” (2006), was screened at the 30th Mostra, where it won the Jury Prize for Best Actor for Adel Imam. The film was also screened at the Berlin Film Festival and won the Best New Narrative Director award at Tribeca. He then directed works such as the short film “Lili”, awarded at Clermont- Ferrand, and the collective film “18 Days” (2011), screened at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as “Ibrahim Labyad” (2009, 33rd Mostra), “Diamond Dust” (2018), and some of Egypt’s biggest box-office hits, including “The Blue Elephant” franchise (2014 and 2019) and the historical epic “Kira & El Gin” (2022).
