Born and raised in Italy in a German family, Markus Duffner has lived in Portugal since 2016. He holds a master’s degree in Cinema, Television and Multimedia Production from the University of Bologna and a degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures from the University of Urbino. He has worked in the film industry since 2005, with experience in festival markets such as Venice, Rome and Cannes. Since 2014, he has worked at the Locarno Film Festival, where he currently serves as Director of Locarno Pro. In 2017, he founded Spamflix, an independent animation production company. He co-produced the animated documentary “King Khat” (2023), presented at the Tallinn Film Festival. He directed and produced the short film “Vele al Vento” (2025). “The Light Is Big” marks his debut in audiovisual content for children.
