

Marco Bechis is an Italian-Chilean filmmaker known for a body of work that addresses social and political themes, frequently focusing on issues such as military dictatorships, political violence, human rights, and cultural identity. Born in Milan, Italy, in 1955, he moved to Argentina as a teenager. He began his directing career in the 1990s and has since made several critically acclaimed films that have been awarded at international festivals. Among his best-known features are “Garage Olimpo” (1999, 23rd Mostra), “Sons and Daughters” (2001, 27th Mostra), and “Birdwatchers” (2008), the opening film of the 32nd Mostra. He also directed a segment for the collective film “The Invisible World” (2011, 36th Mostra), conceived and produced by the Mostra, and the documentary “The Smile of the Leader” (2011, 36th Mostra). At the 50th Mostra, Marco Bechis receives the Humanity Award.
