

Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1969. He studied philosophy at McGill University, in Montreal, Canada, before returning to Iran to make films. His feature debut “Abadan” (2003) premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, followed by the comedy “Men at Work” (2006), presented at the Berlin International Film Festival. Among other works, he also directed the documentary “Hamoon Bazha” (2007), about Dariush Mehrjui’s film “Hamoon” (1990, 22nd Mostra); the fiction features “Modest Reception” (2012, 36th Mostra) and “A Dragon Arrives!” (2016, 40th Mostra), both presented at Berlinale; and the recent ones “Pig” (2018) and “Subtraction” (2022).
