

Born in Daegu, South Korea, in 1954. One of South Korea’s most acclaimed filmmakers, he directed the feature films “Green Fish” (1997); “Peppermint Candy” (2000); “Oasis” (2002), winner of the Critics’, Best Director and Marcello Mastroianni awards at the Venice Film Festival; “Secret Sunshine” (2007), which earned Jeon Do-Yeon the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival; “Poetry” (2010, 34th Mostra), winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the Cannes Film Festival; and “Burning” (2018, 42nd Mostra), winner of the Critics’ Award also at Cannes. Lee Chang-dong served as South Korea’s Minister of Culture and Tourism from 2003 to 2004.
