Born in Bulgaria in 1968. A screenwriter, director, and visual artist, he graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Sofia and earned a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London. He made his directorial debut with the short film “Lemon Is Lemon” (2001), followed by the documentary “Invisible” (2005). His first feature film, “Avé” (2011), was presented at the Critics’ Week of the Cannes Film Festival and received more than 20 international awards. He then directed “Light Thereafter” (2017), presented in competition at the Rotterdam Film Festival, and “The Shameless” (2024), awarded in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes.
