

Born in Kobe, Japan, in 1955. Kurosawa started directing 8mm independent films while studying Sociology at Rikkyo University. After that he worked as an assistant director under Kazuhiko Hasegawa and Shinji Somai. He directed movies such as “Cure” (1997); “Pulse” (2001); “Bright Future” (2003); “Retribution” (2006); “Tokyo Sonata” (2008, 32nd Mostra), winner of the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes; “Journey to the Shore” (2015, 39th Mostra), winner of best direction also in the Un Certain Regard; “Daguerrotype” (2016, 40th Mostra); “Before We Vanish” (2017); “Wife Of A Spy” (2020), winner of the best direction award at Venice; and “Serpent’s Path” and “Cloud”, both made in 2024.
