

A Russian director, screenwriter, and cinematographer. He studied filmmaking at the Kabardino-Balkarian State University, in Russia, where he directed three short films in 2014. In 2017, he directed his first feature film, “Closeness” (2017), which won the Critics’ Prize in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival. His second feature, “Beanpole” (2019), won the award for best director and the Critics’ Prize, both in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes, and was also shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. “Butterfly Jam” is his first English-language film.
