Born in Mexico and raised in Guatemala, Joaquín Ruano studied screenwriting at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC) in Mexico City. Founder of the production company Cine Concepción in Guatemala, he produced the films “Nuestras Madres” (2019), by Cesar Diaz, which won the Caméra d’Or at Cannes; “La Asfixia” (2019), by Ana Bustamante, awarded at BAFICI; and “Roza” (2022), by Andres Rodriguez, presented at the 46th Mostra. He directed the short film “The City We Occupy” (2024), screened at the Havana Film Festival and Cinélatino Toulouse. The filmmaker is the current president of the Guatemalan Association of Audiovisual and Cinematography (AGACINE). “Nosotros” is his feature directorial debut.
