

Born in Portugal shortly after the Carnation Revolution of 1974 into a family of actors, Ivo M. Ferreira has been immersed in theater and film from an early age. He began his technical and artistic training in Lisbon, before ultimately deciding to travel to China. There, he set up a small production company in Macau and directed his first film. He has worked as a photographer, actor, producer, director, and lighting designer. His films “Águas Mil” (2009), “The Foreigner” (2010), and “On the Dragon’s Flake” (2012) were exhibited at the Rotterdam Film Festival, and “Letters from War” (2016) was presented at the 40th Mostra and at the Berlin International Film Festival. The director returned to Macau for his next feature, “Empire Hotel” (2018), screened at the 42nd Mostra.
