

A French-born Angolan writer, photographer, and musician, Hugo Salvaterra is a multidisciplinary artist who concentrates these skills into screenwriting and film direction for more than 10 years. With a particular focus on the African continent and its diaspora, he self- identifies as a Pan-African storyteller, and produces audiovisual art in diverse formats. With a degree in psychology, he earned a Master of Fine Arts from the New York Film Academy in 2018. He directed two short films: “Ear of the Beholder” (2016) and “1999” (2018), for which he won the Unitel Angola Move 2021 Award for Best Short Film. His latest film “My Semba” marks his feature debut.
