Director and writer from Baku, Azerbaijan. Baydarov studied at the Sarajevo Film Academy under acclaimed Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr. He made a trilogy of documentaries set in Katech, Azerbaijan, with the films “When the Persimmons Grew” (2019), awarded at the Sarajevo Film Festival and which won the an Special Jury Mention at Visions du Réel, “Mother and Son” (2019), screened at the IDFA, and “Nails in My Brain” (2020), which premiered at the Cinéma du Réel. After that he directed “In Between Dying” (2020), exhibited at the 44th Mostra and at the Venice, Toronto, and Hong Kong film festivals, as well as the War Tales trilogy, which includes “Sermon to the Fish” (2022), presented at the Locarno Film Festival, “Sermon to the Birds” (2023), screened at the Tokyo International Film Festival, and the final film in the trilogy, “Sermon to the Void”.
