Gael Garcia Bernal

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 1978. He later studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Throughout his career, he has worked in film, television, and theatre, becoming one of the most internationally recognized Mexican actors. Gael García Bernal has collaborated with directors such as Alejandro González Iñárritu, Alfonso Cuarón, Pedro Almodóvar, Pablo Larraín, Walter Salles, Héctor Babenco, M. Night Shyamalan, Michel Gondry, and Lav Diaz. He starred in acclaimed films like “Amores Perros” (2000, 24th Mostra) and “Your Mother as Well” (2001); “The Motorcycle Diaries” (2004); “Bad Education” (2004, 28th Mostra); “Babel” (2006, 30th Mostra); “The Past” (2007), by Héctor Babenco, the opening film of the 31st Mostra; “No” (2012), the opening film of the 36th Mostra; and “Neruda” (2016). He also starred in the series “Mozart in the Jungle”, for which he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor. He made his feature directorial debut with “Déficit” (2007, 31st Mostra). He then directed the short films “Los Invisibles” (2010), made for Amnesty International, and “La Mano Invisible” (2016), as well as a segment of “Revolución” (2010, 34th Mostra); and the feature film “Chicuarotes” (2019), presented at the Cannes, Toronto and San Sebastián film festivals.
