Fanny Ardant

Actress, stage performer, screenwriter, and director born in France in 1949. One of the most striking figures of French and European cinema, she gained international recognition as an actress in “The Woman Next Door” (1981, 33rd Mostra), by François Truffaut, for whom she acted again in “Confidentially Yours” (1983, 8th Mostra). She has worked with directors such as Alain Resnais, Ettore Scola, Volker Schlöndorff, Michelangelo Antonioni, Claude Lelouch, Tsai Ming-liang, and Paolo Sorrentino. She won the César for Best Actress for “Pédale Douce” (1996), by Gabriel Aghion; shared the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution at the Berlin International Film Festival with the cast of “8 Women” (2002), by François Ozon; and received a second César, for Best Supporting Actress, for “La Belle Époque” (2019), by Nicolas Bedos. She made her directorial debut with “Ashes and Blood” (2009), presented at the 33rd Mostra and screened at the Cannes Film Festival. She then directed “Obsessive Rhythms” (2013) and “Stalin’s Couch” (2016).
