Born in São Paulo, he graduated in Film from FAAP. A director and screenwriter, he made the short films “Something Like That” (2006, 30th Mostra), in partnership with Mariana Bastos, winner of the Best Screenplay Award at the Critics’ Week of the Cannes Film Festival and later developed by the duo into a feature film of the same name in 2017; and “Saliva” (2007), also presented at Cannes. His first feature, “The Famous and the Dead” (2009, 33rd Mostra), was screened at film festivals such as Berlin and Locarno. He also directed “Verlust” (2019, 44th Mostra) and “Homem com H” (2025), a biopic of singer Ney Matogrosso. Esmir Filho also created television shows, such as “Tudo o que É Sólido Pode Derreter” (2009), and launched the series “Kissing Game” (2020).
