

Born in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo, in 1981. Filmmaker, actor, poet, composer, and playwright, he graduated in film and video from the University of São Paulo. He wrote and directed short films such as “Areia” (2008), the opening film of the Cannes Critics’ Week, “O Menino Japonês” (2009), “The Boats” (2012), and “Let the Storm” (2017). Among his feature films are “The Moving Creatures” (2012, 36th Mostra); “Your Bones and Your Eyes” (2019), presented at the International Film Festival Rotterdam; and “All the Dead Ones” (2020, 44th Mostra), directed in partnership with Marco Dutra and which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival. His subsequent features, “You Burn Us” (2022) and “A Moving Mountain” (2025), were screened in experimental circuits. Caetano Gotardo is also a member of the filmmakers’ collective Filmes do Caixote.
