

A French-Senegalese film director and screenwriter. His debut feature, “L’Afrance” (2001), won the Silver Leopard in the Filmmakers of the Present section at the Locarno Film Festival. He then directed “Andalucia” (2007), shown at the Venice Film Festival, and “Tey” (2012), awarded best film at Fespaco. “Félicité”, his 2017 feature, was presented at the 41st Mostra and won the Grand Jury Prize in Berlin, in addition to once again receiving the best film award at Fespaco. The film was chosen by Senegal to compete for the Best International Feature Film Oscar. He also directed the documentary “Rewind & Play” (2022), about jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk. In 2018, he founded the Centre Yennenga in Dakar, a cinema socio-cultural center and school aimed at developing production and post-production in West Africa.
