Nelson Mandela, president of South Africa, calls François Pienaar, captain of the national rugby team, for a meeting. Newly elected, Mandela knows that, even after the end of apartheid, his nation follows racially and economically separated. His idea is to unite all population through the universal language of sport and has a proposal for the athlete. He wants the team to perform exceptionally well at the 1995 Rugby World Cup and help bring together a divided country.
