Janno lives with his mother, a fiercely religious woman, in South Africa, in a rural and conservative area dominated by white inhabitants. Different, secretive and emotionally fragile, Janno does not fit in the masculinity pattern that is demanded in his community. One day, his mother brings home Pieter, an orphan who lived on the streets, and asks Janno to make him into a brother. The two boys start a fight for power, heritage and parental love.
