In August 1992, three years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, anti-immigrant riots took place in the East German city of Rostock. The target of the attacks was a refugee shelter on the outskirts of the city, which was set on fire. The movie recounts these events following one day in the life of three characters: Lien, a Vietnamese woman settled in Germany; Stefan, a bored and angry young man who takes part in the turmoil; and Martin, Stefan’s father, an ambitious local politician.
