Back to his childhood town, Arminto falls in love with an elusive woman, who everyone says wants to live in a sunken city. In pursuit of this unobtainable love, he disposes of his family`s heritage and of his reason, while he approaches the Amazon mythical universe —converting his own life into fable and tragedy. The film is based on the novel of the same name by the Brazilian writer Milton Hatoum.
