A hopeless free dive into History as we know it, like a fertile sediment in Manoel de Oliveira’s memory. In a 21st century park bench, Oliveira unites Don Quixote with poet Luís Vaz de Camões and novelists Teixeira de Pascoaes and Camilo Castelo Branco. Together, carried by telluric waves of thought, they wander between past and present, glory and defeat, emptiness and alienation, chasing that most unreachable of stars. The short film uses excerpts from Manoel de Oliveira films Ill Fated Love (1979), No, or the Vain Glory of Command (1990), The Day of Despair (1992) and The Fifth Empire (2004), and the Soviet Dom Quixote (1957), by Grigori Kozintsev.
