On the Christmas Eve of 1970 in Madrid, with Spain under a state of emergency ordered by Franco, a young prostitute gives birth to a boy named Víctor inside a bus. Twenty years later, Víctor is seeing a junkie named Elena. One night, they have a violent argument and two cops, Sancho and David, arrive at the scene. A struggle for the gun ensues, ending with David being hit by a bullet and becoming a paraplegic. Ten years later, Víctor is released from prison and David, who eventually married Elena, is now a wheelchair basketball player. However, Víctor wants to win Elena back while proving his innocence. Based on the novel by Ruth Rendell.
